01 -- CHALLENGE
Surging Agent Workloads Strained Homegrown Sandbox Infrastructure
WRITER launched its platform in 2020 with early transformer models powering text generation and content creation. But as the models and supporting infrastructure evolved to support complex workflows, customers started putting agents to work on more sophisticated, multi-step enterprise tasks. To meet this growing demand, WRITER needed isolated, scalable sandbox environments where agents could operate safely and reliably.
Initially, WRITER built an in-house sandbox platform on AWS Fargate to power its multi-agent orchestration graph. This infrastructure dynamically provisioned and terminated dedicated sandboxes for a set of agent tasks, minimizing latency to protect the user experience and control infrastructure costs. However, maintaining this performance at a scale of 20,000+ sandboxes per day introduced immense operational overhead.
“Provisioning compute capacity and maintaining reliability meant our team was spending days managing sandboxes, rather than advancing our models and agent capabilities,” shares Waseem Alshikh, Co-Founder and CTO at WRITER.
That overhead wasn’t limited to scale. Supporting enterprise customers required robust security and governance to protect sensitive data and meet evolving requirements for data residency, access controls, and auditability. Each sandbox had to securely execute untrusted code, so strong workload isolation was also non-negotiable.
For WRITER’s engineering team, building and maintaining infrastructure to meet all of those requirements wasn’t the best use of their time. Instead, Waseem began evaluating sandbox infrastructure providers that could support WRITER’s agent workloads in production. While several solutions seemed promising, most required bespoke architectural setups to support throughput increases, creating significant friction.
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before Waseem discovered Daytona. Their sandbox infrastructure met every requirement to support WRITER’s growing agent workloads and keep engineering focused on advancing its AI platform.
Once we scaled beyond 20,000 sandboxes a day, running the underlying infrastructure in-house turned into a full-time job for our team. We needed a partner that could help us provision secure sandboxes fast, without adding operational overhead. That’s what Daytona gave us.

02 -- SOLUTION
A Runtime That Deploys, Isolates, and Scales Performant Sandboxes
Daytona integrated into WRITER’s engineering stack through a seamless, hands-on implementation. Daytona’s engineers worked directly with Waseem and his team in a dedicated Slack channel, refining networking and runtime libraries to suit WRITER’s architecture.
With this setup, Daytona became the sandbox infrastructure behind WRITER’s agent orchestration platform. From writing code for data analysis to browsing the web for market research, Daytona provisions dedicated sandboxes for hundreds of thousands of complex enterprise workloads. Each one starts near-instantly, allowing agent workflows to begin without visible latency. This speed keeps agents responsive as demand rises and maintains throughput without idle costs.
Security is foundational to this execution model. Every sandbox provides an isolated environment where WRITER’s agents can safely execute untrusted code and process customer data. Daytona also provides enterprise security controls like granular access and audit logging. Combined with ongoing compliance updates, this enables Waseem and his team to adapt quickly as new security requirements surface.
Because Daytona manages the full sandbox lifecycle, it automatically tears down sandboxes after agents complete their tasks, maximizing resource utilization. For agent workloads that need to pause or run repeatedly, Waseem’s team uses Daytona’s Snapshots to preserve sandbox state at key points. That capability makes complex, multi-step workflows more reliable while reducing execution time.
As WRITER grows, Waseem’s team continues to work with Daytona's engineers to increase sandbox capacity and support increasingly sophisticated agent workflows. This hands-on partnership keeps WRITER’s sandbox infrastructure aligned with the pace of its product innovation.
Daytona understands security isn't a feature but an ongoing effort. That’s what makes its platform perfect for our enterprise customers and their agentic workloads.
